Plain Coffee is delicious! Espresso is even better. With coffee shops popping up everywhere selling beverages with fancy names, espresso is big business. Espresso is the basis for most of the drinks in coffee shops. Espresso is the main ingredient of lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos and mochas.
Espresso is made by forcing steaming hot water through finely ground coffee beans. It was started in Milan in the early 1900`s. It`s characterized by the crema a top the drink.
If you want to make your own espresso here are some tips to get you started. Make sure you get a good blend. It must be finely ground. If you use classic coffee presses you can get pure coffee pretty easily. Roast your espresso light, not dark. This will enhance the natural flavors. If you are going to make espresso you must grind it and immediately dose it. Do let your grounds get stale sitting in the grinder. Also make sure your water is at the best possible temperature. Keep practicing to get that perfect shot of espresso.
Besides the coffee the main thing you need to make great espresso is an espresso machine. There are three main types of Espresso machines: steam- driven, piston-driven, Pump-driven. The steam driven is not used as much as the others. The Piston Driven Espresso machines have a lever that pressurizes the water. The water is then sent through the coffee grinds. The process is called pulling a shot.
A variation on the piston- driven system is the pump- driven system. The difference is that the make no longer has to manually press the water through. A motorized pump does this step for you.
You can also find a machine based on how many processes are automated. A semi-automatic machine has an automatic pump. An Automatic espresso machine is programmable. A super-automatic machine grinds and extracts the coffee.
